  5. This is a general document created after we received requests for help.  It
  6. was created in order to help both you and us in trying to determine what the
  7. problems may be and the quickest way to help you.
  8. If you are able to solve your problem using this document, please let us know.
  9. It is very important to us to know that a solution to your problem has been
  10. found.

  14. The following below assumes that you are in DOS operating system and have the
  15. compression PKZIP utility installed.  Consult your Operating System's
  16. documentation about the DOS commands used.  PKZIP can be obtained from
  17. PKWare's website at www.pkware.com, please read its documentation carefully.

  21. Football Fanatic Installation problems:

  24.         If for some reason you are experiencing problems installing Football
  25.         Fanatic from the floppy disk supplied using the INSTALL program:
  26.  
  27.         1. Create a directory in which you wish to install the game
  28.                 Ex: "MD \GAMES\FOOTY"
  29.         2. Enter the directory created
  30.                 Ex: "CD \GAMES\FOOTY"
  31.         3. Copy the FF-REG.EXE file from the floppy disk
  32.                 Ex: "COPY A:\FF-REG.EXE"
  33.         4. Run FF-REG.EXE to decompress the files
  34.         5. When asked if you wish to overwrite a file answer "Yes"
  35.         6. Run FF.EXE to play the game
  36.  
  37.         If you encounter any run-time errors or CRC checksum failures
  38.         contact us at footy@thunderbear.com right away.
  39.         We also suggest you run Norton Utilities Disk Doctor or similar
  40.         program to attempt to repair any files that may have been damaged
  41.         or corrupted.

  44. Unzipping Files for Football Fanatic
  45.  
  46.         When we supply patches or add-on files, they are usually in ZIP
  47.         format.  This is used to compress files in order to reduce transfer
  48.         times and space. In the examples the file is called FF-DATA.ZIP.
  49.         Follow the following steps:
  50.  
  51.         1. Enter the directory into which you have downloaded the ZIP file
  52.                 Ex: "CD \APPS\NETSCAPE"
  53.         2. Copy the file into your Football Fanatic directory
  54.                 Ex: "COPY FF-DATA.ZIP \GAMES\FOOTY"
  55.         3. Enter the Football Fanatic directory
  56.                 Ex: "CD \GAMES\FOOTY"
  57.         4. UnZIP the file
  58.                 Ex: "PKUNZIP FF-DATA.ZIP"
  59.         5. When asked if you wish to overwrite a file answer "Yes"
  60.         6. Delete FF-DATA.ZIP
  61.                 Ex: "DEL FF-DATA.ZIP"

  64. Manually Copying Files
  65.  
  66.         There has been some confusion about copying NAM files to be used with
  67.         the Data-File Editor.  By this we mean that you make a copy of
  68.         DEFAULT.NAM under a different name.
  69.                 Ex: "COPY DEFAULT.NAM MY_NAMES.NAM"

  73. Games Crashes After Intro Screen

  75.         This is due to low memory.  Usually happens if you are running the
  76.         game in a DOS box.  Make sure that the settings allocate at least
  77.         2 Megs of RAM for the game.  If you are using Windows 3.1 or Windows
  78.         95, try to exit the operating system and boot to DOS.
  79.         If the problems persist try running Football Fanatic with
  80.         "FF MEMLOW" or "FF VERYLOW".  This will reduce the memory requirements
  81.         of the game.

  88.         include the following:

  90.         - What exactly you were trying to do.
  91.         - What went wrong and any error messages displayed.
  92.         - Which steps were successful in the above examples.
  93.         - What operating system you are using.
  94.         - The specs of your system (cpu, RAM and devices installed).
  95.         - If Football Fanatic has worked fine before.
  96.         - How comfortable you are with DOS.
  97.         - Have you properly installed PKZip.
  98.         - If you can receive files by e-mail or if you have web-access.
